An original Palm Springs home. Nearly eight decades of history. A new chapter in the art of vacation living.
November 1, 2026 | Palm Springs, California
Some houses are worth preserving. Others are worth sharing.
This February, we're doing both.
Canary House is delighted to announce that The Laswell Residence has been selected as a Featured Home for Modernism Week 2027, taking place February 11–21 in Palm Springs, California.
And as of today, tickets are available to experience it for yourself.
A Palm Springs Original, Reimagined
Construction on the Laswell Residence began in 1947, when Palm Springs was emerging as a destination for a new way of living—one shaped by sunshine, architecture, and an effortless connection between indoors and out.
Built for Maynard A. Laswell and his wife, Stanis, the home became part of Rancho Royale, a distinctive postwar residential enclave developed by Samuel H. Levin.
Nearly 80 years later, Laswell is preparing to welcome a new generation of visitors.
What began as a restoration has become something much more personal: an opportunity to honor the home's history while imagining how it can be enjoyed for decades to come.
The People Behind the Transformation
Bringing Laswell into its next chapter has been a remarkable collaboration.
Led by Brooke Snyder and the team at @designhutch, the home's interiors bring together midcentury character, contemporary craftsmanship, collected furnishings, and an unmistakable sense of Palm Springs.
Throughout the residence, thoughtful details reflect both the home's original spirit and a more contemporary approach to desert living.
It's a transformation made possible by the designers, artisans, craftspeople, and construction teams who have invested their talents in this extraordinary property.
And in February, we finally get to share their work.
Experience The Art of Vacation Living
At Canary House, we believe a remarkable home is about more than beautiful architecture or thoughtfully selected furnishings.
It's about how a place makes you feel.
The morning light. The connection to the outdoors. A room that invites you to stay a little longer. The pleasure of discovering something unexpected.
That's the inspiration behind The Art of Vacation Living, and it's what we're bringing to life at Laswell.
During Modernism Week, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the residence, discover its history, experience its newly imagined interiors, and see how this Palm Springs original is beginning its next chapter.
Modernism Week 2027: Plan Your Visit
Modernism Week is one of Palm Springs' most anticipated annual celebrations, bringing together architecture enthusiasts, designers, preservationists, and visitors from around the world.
The 2027 festival features more than 400 tours, programs, and events celebrating the architecture, art, and design that make Palm Springs so extraordinary.
We're especially excited that Laswell will be among the homes opening their doors.
